KRYPTONITE™ Bone Cement is the result of 10 years research and development by doctors and scientists dedicated to making a difference.

At Doctors Research Group, Inc. (DRG), we have strived to develop a reputation for pioneering change for medical devices in both diagnostic and surgical applications. From our earlier invention of a bone screw/suture anchor system (Sherlock™) to a noise reducing stethoscope (Puretone™) that records a patient's heartsounds (Echo™), our company motto of "physicians working together" has been a major reason for rapid success. By encouraging open dialog between the medical community and our team, timelines get shortened and product improvements become more dramatic.

It all started in the late '90's, when the founder, Richard J. Deslauriers, MD combined his mechanical engineering education with a medical degree from the renowned research and development program at the University of Toronto Medical School. Armed with nothing but education and passion, Dr. Deslauriers started DRG in an old stamping factory with a small team of engineers, a very limited budget and extraordinary ambitions. The Company's primary focus was to develop innovative instrumentation designed to assist the practitioner in performing surgical procedures more quickly and efficiently.

Tomorrow's medical efficiencies... delivered today.

For years DRG analyzed traditional surgical practices to bring to market enhanced instrumentation for improved patient outcomes and increased time savings. With a thorough understanding of shortcomings in medical procedures, DRG has developed devices unlike any others. Among these unique devices are products that allow consistent mixing of bone substitutes, simplified use of bone screws and suture anchors, more efficient dental stabilization, and economic calibration of panoramic X-ray images.

DRG recognizes the fact that health care is ever changing and evolving. This shifting environment profoundly impacts practitioners and health care providers, always searching for better surgical methods and faster recovery. One goal is to assist in making surgical procedures safer and shorter.

Building a better osteobiologic

Then came the ultimate challenge, not just to build a product but to impact many procedures at once with a multi-platform technology that will change the way the surgical world approaches bone repair.

We started with an alternative to PMMA, and with hard work intend to advance the technology into oesteoconductive adhesives, synthetic allografts and even osteoinductive platforms.

KRYPTONITE™ Bone Cement represents a major advancement in treating cranial defects due to trauma and surgery and is the first non-toxic, low exotherm cement and bone void filler approved for Cranioplasty applications that offers strong adhesive properties to organic and inorganic materials. For more than six decades, surgeons have been using products containing polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), a brittle, non-adhesive thermoplastic filler that cures in the body at high temperatures, capable of causing necrosis to surrounding tissue. Additionally, previous treatment options presented environmental hazards to medical personal due to the toxic fumes released during mixing and preparation. KRYPTONITE™ Bone Cement eliminates these hazards.

On sale for several years in Europe, and more recently in Canada, Latin America and Australia, KRYPTONITE™ Bone Cement is a self-setting bone cement formed by combining three naturally occurring components to create an adhesive, low exotherm, non-toxic bone repair solution that cures with porous properties and is engineered to mimic natural bone. KRYPTONITE™ Bone Cement polymerizes in stages, offering surgeons the option to inject it as a liquid, to secure bone-to-bone adhesion, or to shape it as a moldable putty, to create form fitting plates which eliminate the need for painful bone grafts that prolong patient recovery times.

“This represents an enormous step for surgical options and patient recovery,” said Richard J. Deslauriers, MD, President and CEO of Doctors Research Group.  “The Company has invested considerable time, money and resources in developing a new and effective bone repair solution that is safer and more effective.”

For the last ten years DRG has focused on the development and commercialization of this revolutionary bone repair solution. Because of the tremendous potential of using KRYPTONITE™ Bone Cement, all efforts have been channeled into creating a global product presence backed by a team of world-class experts. DRG is committed to making KRYPTONITE™ Bone Cement, the product of choice and ultimately improving the experience of both patients, and surgeons in a consistent, reliable manner.
