KRYPTONITETM Bone Cement achieves a strong bond through both bony interdigitation and chemical adhesion, providing a stable interface at both macro and micro levels. Interdigitation into simulated cancellous bone is shown below in (figure 3).

KRYPTONITE Bone Cement is an injectable liquid for up to 8 minutes after mixing (figure 1) then transitions into a highly adhesive taffy state (figure 2) 8-15 minutes after mixing.

Bony Interdigitation

Macro adhesion is achieved through favorable flow characteristics and enhanced by material expansion during polymerization. This is in contrast to polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) which shrinks during polymerization, potentially pulling away from adjacent structures.

Chemical Adhesion (Micro-Adhesion)

The functional groups within the A and B components of KRYPTONITE Bone Cement are available to chemically bond with organic and inorganic material within the host bone. By contrast, PMMA polymerization occurs via a double bond reaction and provides no functional groups for direct adhesion to bone.
